What happens when you give a workforce limited time, finite resources, rising demand, delays and unexpected events, and the pressure to perform well in their own departments? When the stakes are high and everyone has a different job to do, we tend to narrow our focus on just our part and the organization underperforms. Friday Night at the ER is an award-winning simulation learning game that moves people—in any industry and at all levels—beyond silos to optimize organization-wide performance. The game challenges teams of four to manage a community hospital on a busy Friday night, serving as a metaphor to teach high-level lessons and insights. Participants become immersed in a simulation environment that naturally puts them in silos, a reflection of people's real-world experience. They make well-intentioned decisions that address immediate needs, but that inadvertently contribute to systemic problems that affect both local and organization-wide performance. Successful teams ultimately rise above their silos and apply three core strategies that derive from the discipline and practice of Systems Thinking. This 1-hour simulation game and the 2-hour debrief that follows is designed to “wake up” participants to realize their role in the performance of the system and to explore changes that are more effective for achieving desired outcomes. Participants also advance essential skills including cross-functional collaboration, creative problem-solving, and complex decision-making within a dynamic environment. Use the tabletop version for in-person events or our new online version for remote sessions. The product comes with all the materials and resources needed to deliver the program successfully on your own. Or you can hire one of our expert facilitators to deliver it for you. Stop by our booth to see the game in action and to learn how Friday Night at the ER can help your groups reach peak performance when the pressure is on!
